Network Technician

The Network Technician’s role is to support the stable operation of the client computer networks. This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and support where required.

Some of the duties:

 


  • Assist with implementation and upgrades to current network environment.
  • Perform routine tasks under the direct supervision of the CTO.
  • Act as a front-line interface to users, accepting trouble reports and responding as needed.
  • Configure and install computer, peripheral and network equipment.
  • Maintain security of systems.
  • Troubleshoot intermediate computer hardware and software problems.
  • Maintain tape rotations and strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance to Help Desk staff regarding the day-to-day operations of PC and network systems.
  • Routinely monitor system logs for possible problems, and report accordingly.
  • Maintain network username database.
  • Provide on-call and department network support as necessary.
  • Function effectively as a team member to: communicate effectively, resolve conflict constructively, and collaborate toward accomplishing team goals and objectives.

Requirements:

 


  • 2+ years of PC, Networking experience or equivalent education necessary, MCSE certification a plus.
  • Requires 2+ years of PC hardware and software troubleshooting and repair experience in Microsoft Operating system environments.
  • Intermediate level understanding of networks and network protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of Internet and e-mail applications.
  • Ability to work independently and follow complex written and verbal instructions with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to thoroughly document tasks & activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
